We are a group of trained
Interventionists who specialize in working with families and
concerned others who are frustrated, angry and at their wits end in
dealing with chemical dependency, compulsive gambling, eating
disorders, internet addiction, compulsive spending or sexual

Each of the staff has
completed 30 hours of advanced training in the ARISE method
and has participated in co-leading ARISE Interventions before
becoming Certified ARISE Interventionists. Each staff member
functions independently under their individual mental health
license.

James Garrett
James Garrett,
LCSW-R is a licensed clinical social worker in New York
State. He received his Masters in Social Work from Syracuse
University in 1972. He has worked in the addictions field for
the past 35 years. His work in addictions has included: Staff
and supervisory positions in outpatient treatment; administrative
work as Acting Deputy Commissioner for the NYS Division of
Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse; Executive Director of a treatment
facility; international trainer; program consultant, and
co-investigator on several regional, national and international
grants, including a National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) research
grant.
He is currently in
private practice in Albany, NY specializing in ARISE Interventions
and the treatment of individuals and families affected by
addiction. He is the founder of the Recovery Resource
Center. In addition, he serves as Vice-President of Linking
Human Systems™ - a training, Intervention, research and consulting
company specializing in ARISE Interventions and systemic treatment
of addictions and other chronic illnesses. In
addition to his other publications, Mr. Garrett is the principal
author of 4 peer-reviewed journal articles on Intervention and has
co-authored another 5 articles related to treatment outcomes and
Intervention.
His awards include
listing in Who’s Who in America (2000) and Outstanding College
Athletes of America (1970). He is a member of the
National Association of Social Workers, the Association of
Intervention Specialists and the Collaborative Family Health Care
Coalition.
He has participated in
over 500 Interventions and has provided Intervention training to
treatment providers in the US and other countries including Hungary
and Belgium. He has done workshops and training nationally and
internationally and presented at a number of national and
international meetings.
Judith Landau, MD, LMFT (NYS),
CFLE
Dr. Judith Landau, child, family and
community psychiatrist, formerly Professor of Psychiatry and Family
Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center, designed and
directed the University of Rochester Family Therapy Training
Program and later the Division of Family
Programs. She is
currently President of Linking Human Systems, LLC, Visiting
Professor, Division of Adult Psychosocial Medicine, National Jewish
Medical and Research Center and adjunct professor,
International Trauma Studies Program,
New York University.
As a
Fulbright Scholar in Argentina, Dr. Landau consulted on mobilizing
families and communities to access their resilience and harness
their resources for community building in the treatment and
prevention of substance and AIDS, designing and teaching courses for
non-degree professionals as well as associates, bachelors and
masters level students.
She has consulted to the Argentine government and was also
instrumental in the establishment of the field of credentialed
addiction counseling in Hungary, serving as consultant to their
Departments of Health, Social Service and Education. She served on the NYS OASAS
Planning Committee of the Addiction Technology and
Transfer Center, was chair of the
Subcommittee on Supervision and Clinical Sites and designed and
taught several courses on addiction and the family. She consulted
to the NYS OASAS
Commissioner’s Committee for the
NYS Professional Addiction Education Center. She has worked with
substance abusers and their families for 35 years, directing
programs that interface with 12-step programs, recovery, community
and mental health service.

America. Dr. Landau’s awards include
being a Diplomate and Fellow of the American Board of Medical
Psychotherapists, a Charter Fellow of the National Council on Family
Relations, a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychotherapists in
Marriage and Family Therapy and Child Therapy, and a Fellow of the
American Orthopsychiatric
Association.
Marcia Larabee
Marcia Larabee, MA, DAPA is the Administrative Assistant at
the Recovery Resource Center. As the Administrative
Assistant, she deals with such issues as billing and insurance
questions. She has been working in the addictions treatment
field for 17 years in a variety of settings including hospitals,
schools, outpatient agencies, residential programs and private
practice. She has a Master's degree in Human Development and
is a Diplomate of the American Psychotherapy Association. Her
biography appeared in Who's Who of American Women. In addition
to her specialized addictions work, Ms. Larabee is a NYS Certified
Teacher who has taught at all levels of instruction from pre-school
through graduate school and adult education.
